So I can feel better about the one I just made.
I should’ve looked out better.
I backed up next to a lamppost and I scraped the side of my car and slightly dented it.
I pushed the dent back a bit from the inside but still..
Here is my car in better times.
Please tell me your mistakes..

Was washing my car and talking to a friend and hit it with the back side of the brush and scratched it down to primer.

I once used 89 instead of 87 in my miata. Wow, I felt silly. Live and learn.

Went the cheap route on coils. Three weeks later had to replace them all.

I totalled a Miata, like, completely.

Left my rear quarter glass cracked open before a torrential downpour. About an inch of water sat on the floor behind my driver seat (it’s like a bowl on the floor). If that’s not bad enough I just so happened to have my low profile powered subwoofer there.

I am not particularly enamored of wrenching my cars, but not averse to it when need be. My 1998 Civic had crested 100k on it’s original sparkplugs and wires, so I decamped to the auto parts store, bought new plugs and wires. How hard could it be? You don’t even need to get your hands dirty, everything is RIGHT THERE. So, three plugs and wires go according to plan, but the fourth...................Just a bit more............SNAP! I now have half a plug in the head and half in my socket wrench. Fortunately, literally around the corner and down the hill from my house is a very reputable and sympathetic repair guy who finishes my plug and wire change and gives me a shiny new headgasket and some labor charges and does not snicker when I dutifully hand over my 400 dollars and drive away. I told my wife “The next time you see me walking towards the car with a wrench in my hand, take it from me, and strike me with it vigorously until the urge to repair my car leaves me.

I used 5W-20 instead of 5W-30 for two oil changes on my Escort GT. Lost compression in 3 cylinders because the piston rings were almost gone. Wound up having to replace the engine.

Parked my old 2wd Dakota on a pile of hard packed ice, high centered it, and spend the next hour and a half digging it out with a friend and two strangers and my wife who was laughing at me the entire time

Its a Fiat Ritmo Bertone, 1 in 5 in my country. It’s pretty ghetto at the moment.

None to my own or parents cars, but a few to company trucks for landscaping crews I used to work on.
Got the e-brake stuck somehow and didn’t notice until I got back to the shop. Brakes smell bad! (not necessarily my fault but I should have noticed it)
Got the 10-yard dumbstruck stuck in the owner’s back yard. (Hungover me didn’t feel like walking the yard to check for soft spots, but I was on the boss’s orders)
Knocked a granite mailbox post over with the back of the box truck while I was backing out. (Totally my fault)
Jackknifed the truck and trailer on multiple occasions. (everyone does it a few times when they’re new)
Dropped half a pallet of soil on the side of boss’s truck when I took a turn too quickly in the forklift.
Plowed through one of the shop golf carts I couldn’t see underneath the snow in the winter. (Spent the next day fixing it... 3 cheers for job security!)
Feel better yet?

earlier this week i used antiseize to hold a spacer on to a hub and didn’t ensure it didn’t get into the bolt threads.... the wheel backed out a fair amount during the shake down of my new suspension, and probably ruined one of my new (to me) rare and expensive 2 piece wheels...... ): i feel you buddy

Getting my Taurus road ready and we forgot to prime the brakes. My friend drove since I still had my permit, and we shot out of the shop and kept rolling....
The second is when I was replacing my water pump and didn’t glue down the hose on top of the pump since I was running late for work learned the hard way after it popped off two weeks later
Dumped $1200 on a pos with 327k
Haven't made any dumb mistakes on my Vic yet.

This is actually the lamppost that I hit.

Put the car in neutral to fiddle with a stereo, forgot to put it back into park. Next time I sit in it, it rolls back into my friend’s (parked) car with my friend’s dad in it.

Back when my parking brake cable was shot I forgot to check if reverse had engaged so the car rolled across the street into a telephone pole. Got lucky twice: my car hit a PVC pipe on the front of the pole so there wasn’t any body damage and my wheel was slightly turned; if it was straight it would’ve missed the pole and rolled down a hill into someone’s house.
And that is why I always push on my car after parking to make sure it’s not going anywhere.

Didn’t set torque wrench properly when re installing a wheel. Lost it and ruined my fender, splash guard, and someone elses car.

Cut wiring to my side lights...because idiot.
Curbed the same wheel 2x. It now has curb rash almost all the way around.

Please tell me what amazing car this is.
To answer your question I vacuumed my mom’s car’s dashboard and left a 5 inch long scratch on it.

I love tapped a Hilux in my mates Eunos 30x. Hit it at walking pace, hilux was fine. Pushed the radiator into the engine block in the eunos.
Costs more in parts to fix than its worth.. So I bought the car and its now a lawn ornament.

I accidentally forgot righty tighty from lefty loosy and snapped a strut mount pin on my rear control arm.

That front end adds all the street cred, that’s why it looks good.

It really is a cool looking car. I don’t think we ever got the coupe version in Canada( I could be wrong). I find this coupe looks much better than the hatchback we got.

My buddy came over and after a few beers we decided to cut my rear bumper & bracket off with a reciprocating saw.
I kind of wish I hadn't so I could install side skirts over wheel wells and a cut the bumper to create a diffuser.

I drove for half an hour once before I realized I had my parking brake on.

Broke my HVAC control knob in my Crosstrek (when it was only about 4 months old) replacing the factory head unit. Damn thing cost me a few hundred bucks for the replacement.

The front end is a Postert kit from the 80’s, a german tuning company. It was installed in that time too.

That’s horrible. It must have cost you cents!

I think the coupe was sold in the US, but I don’t know about Canada. The bad thing about the coupe is that it (only) has the 1.6 liter engine and not the 2 liter.

I had a ‘72 Camaro and a job that started at 6:30am. In winter that meant I was on the road before the plows and de-icer trucks had hit the streets I drove on my commute. It was late winter/ early spring and we had some really wet snow overnight and I had no business driving a that car on those streets especially since I had stupidly only put snow tires on the rear. I ended up hitting a power pole and wiping out the car. The thing is that if I had just let it go I would have ended up in a field with little or no damage but I fought it and managed to hit that pole. I could have just driven my mom’s car since this was a long time ago and I was living with my parents, but no I had to be a “real man”.

On a rainy day, I wanted to see whether I could drift my QX4 on a right turn. It ended up me almost spinning out, me trying to wrench my steering wheel back and forth, and me trying to control a back end whipping back and forth, then stopping Inthe middle of a the Main Street of my hometown. Thank god it was empty that day.

I forgot to remove the o-ring from the old oil filter when putting a new one. Fresh oil all over the place. SUV smoked for a few hours after refilling and removing old filter gasket.

One time, I was backing out of an IHOP parking space and hit a pole so hard the swing poked a hole into my transmission and dumped transmission fluid into the parking lot... on a slope, too.
![]() 05/04/2015 at 20:29 |

In a dark parking lot, in a hurry, in experienced. Put trans fluid in the master cylinder. Not a big deal until all the lines fall apart and the whole brake fluid system needs to be replaced.....
Had a hood not able to open. Ran the engine dry of oil. Siezed it up. My dad took a pry bar and 20w50 to it. Jammed the bar in the fan and cranked the cylinders loose.
off the top of my head. I’m sure I’ve done more and worse.

Wait wait wait... The knob was a few hundred?
![]() 05/05/2015 at 05:14 |

Yup. Unfortunately it was the whole control unit, not just the knob. Even though the only thing that was broken was the knob.

I’ve done this.
